It was an extremely disappointing experience for Macaron Day TO at Petite Thuet. The gentleman manning the macaron counter made it sound like customers who were asking about the event (and the promise of a free macaron) as cheapskates. While it was not published anywhere, I later found out that these were given out only between the time of 10am and 12pm. The staff proceeded to say that, "we can't possibly give out free macarons the whole day because it's for charity."

It is exactly why it is for charity that's why merchants should honour their word, and do so freely without strings attached.

My children and I did not get any free macarons, but we did purchase a box as planned. But it was a very bitter feeling overall.

Dear Aman,
Thank you for the kind words. I grew up with a tradition of Punjabi cookery - my father spent the years 1939 to 1945 in Delhi with the Royal Indian Army Corps and came back to England at the age of 25 with a new and shiningly ecumenical palate. During my childhood, many of his wartime friends came from India and Sri Lanka to our house and the conversation always seemed to end up centred around food. In my teens, I met other Indian cooks - Ishmael Merchant and Madha Jaffery among them - who cooked for us and changed and educated us. But it was your mother who most broadened my mind as to what Indian cooking is and could one day be. Spectacularly polite in the face of even the most ill-informed question, she was willing to transcend regional cuisines, even national cuisines, generously embracing all sorts of culinary disciplines and seeing how they could fit into her own philosophy. Together, you and she created a very special place at Indian Rice Factory - one of the gems in Toronto's diadem. It always pleased me that so many of our great western chefs and educators recognised her gifts and her contribution. I will NEVER forget that dish of fenugreek greens she cooked for me, the first time I ever tasted her food.
A bientot, Aman...

What a wonderful description of CedarCreek Wines. We are so glad everyone enjoyed and we are so pleased that the "M"- Madeira-style wine was such a star of the evening. It is probably the only "M" made in Canada. But Yes, Canada makes more than ice-wine and we can't wait for wine lovers to try the CedarCreek "M" and other great wines made in this country!

A little less complex is probably still worth a try. And I haven't tried Green Spot, but the citrus notes in Redbreast are part of what I like about it, so I'll add Green Spot to my list, too. Thanks for the info!
