This just in – the brilliant new initiative from Community Food Centres Canada asking Canadians to entertain some good\u00a0during The Big Social – and raise\u00a0money for healthy food programs in low-income communities.<\/p>\n

What if your next lunch or dinner could be more than just a\u00a0meal \u2013 what if it could also do good in low-income communities? That\u2019s what will happen during\u00a0The Big Social, a new national fundraising campaign being launched by Community Food\u00a0Centres Canada (CFCC).<\/p>\n

From November 1 to 10, thousands of Canadians will host meals in their homes and workplaces\u00a0and raise money to give low-income Canadians better access to healthy food and programs that\u00a0change lives.<\/p>\n

\nJoining in is easy. People sign up to host at www.bigsocial.ca<\/a>. A Big Social can be whatever a\u00a0host wants: a dinner party, a potluck, a supper club, and office lunch, or even a laid-back family\u00a0dinner. Hosts set a fundraising goal, invite their guests, and ask them to make a donation. The\u00a0money they raise supports low-income Canadians to access good food and empowering\u00a0programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy hosting an event for The Big Social, you can share great food with friends and loved ones,\u00a0and make a difference at the same time. What a beautiful thing to come together around food\u00a0knowing you\u2019re doing good in your community,\u201d said Chef Nicole Gomes, The Big Social\u00a0national ambassador and Food Network Canada personality. The event\u2019s other national\u00a0ambassador is Food Network Canada celebrity chef Lynn Crawford.
\nThe Big Social campaign is being launched by Community Food Centres Canada, a national\u00a0nonprofit that supports people who are struggling with poverty and food insecurity. People who\u00a0are food insecure are more likely to suffer from physical and mental health problems, and social\u00a0isolation. CFCC\u2019s programs help thousands of people across the country to access healthy\u00a0food, improve their health, and become less isolated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that food is an incredible tool for bringing people together. That\u2019s what our
\nprograms do every day,\u201d says Nick Saul, President and CEO of Community Food Centres\u00a0Canada. \u201cNow we\u2019re asking Canadians to join us by gathering around their own tables to enjoy\u00a0food together and raise money so more people can benefit from these programs.\u201d<\/p>\n
